Gotcha!!

The stolen art I am speaking of are these photographs of

Jesse's roses. Jesse is the man who owns the home beside The Fairy's Rest.

He lives on the other end of Va and we see him about every 10 - 14 days if we are there that often. He has these gorgeous roses, and other varieties too, planted all around his house. He told me that if I am down at our place and there are any roses blooming to feel free to come over and cut them and put them in a vase, whether he is there or not. He says they are there to enjoy and not waste away. I had to steal some good photo opts today but I could not find it in my heart to cut one of these beauties off. They are just perfect!!

It was a nice rainy day and I was just about to waste it away being a slug on the sofa watching TV, when it hit me that I am not finished with "My" work at The Fairy's Rest!! "His" work is almost finished, only a few pieces on the handrail on the back deck, installing the new kitchen faucet, pressure washing and treating the decks (probably end up being my job), and help me patch some wallboard in the master bedroom which was damaged during the move and I can't seem to get it fixed right myself.

My work still involves a ton of paint, more cleaning and decorating.....which includes making curtains. I only have about 2 things give or take,that I still need to purchase as far as furnishings
or appliances. I need a microwave and a TV. I want a TV DVD combo. I live near Va Tech and it's May so you know those students are practically giving their stuff away right now....woowooooo I found both on Craigslist this morning! A red microwave for my red kitchen and a TV DVD VHS flat screen 24" !!!! Perfect for a rental home and it comes with a matching TV stand!! Both for $60!! Now that's frugal shopping!

So anyway I got my lazy well almost very lazy butt ready and took off down there and I slung a lot of paint on everything! I was really getting back into that painting everything white, that I am so famous for, and then I ran out of paint!! So it's supposed to rain all week here and I have no excuse to not get my work done inside in the next week or two......well maybe one little bitty excuse.......I have 40 eggs to be hatched on Fri or Sat and I have one doe that is due Thursday! Another one any day now....for sure! Also my new doe is ready for me to come get as soon as we can come up with a time....(she is as busy as I am!) Now some of that action may very well get in the way of my plans to get finished with my work.

I feel that I have more things on my to do list than any one in the world!

My flowers are doing really good, nothing pressing just tweaking to be done there. The veggie garden is at a standstill til after it dries and then we will plant the warm season crops. I had some early planting of warm season crops and they have not come up other than 2 small rows of corn, so they will all need to be planted when dry. Now all my attention will be on farm animals and The Fairy's Rest. I have got to start advertising and get my name out there so we can make some money!!!!!!!

busy busy busy........

BUT HEY......... I made a pair of curtains and tiebacks for the bathroom while watching American Idol tonight. I am sure that I will have to do a lot more multi-tasking around here if I get all my chores done.

Water Garden Maintainence

Pictures surely are deceiving at times. My water garden looks really good in these pictures but in reality it looks like a mud bog.

I have been neglecting it somewhat for the past few years as I have my perennial beds.

I am turning over a new lily pad this year though!!

I love water and water gardens and fish ponds and rivers and streams and lakes and oceans and pools better than anyone in the world.

I have had several smaller water features over the years and one much bigger fresh water mud bog. I had such great plans for this one.

We got it built and filled and moved all my {{{{{HUGE}}}}} Koi from my bigger pond that was beside our fishpond. The Koi were never seen in that mudhole so I begged for this pond at my house. I picked out the perfect spot in front of my living room window so I could look out at the fish swimming around all day.

What I didn't realize was that I would be watching turtles, snakes and frogs swimming around all day long ;-)))

Build it and they will come!!!

We added a few water plants and things were looking pretty good the first year, even though the rock around the edges didn't get finished for several years, that was my Mother's Day gift last year. One weekend a few years back the pond water turned green and my brilliant husband decided that he would use the copper sulfate that he uses on the big fish pond to kill algae, to clean this water up. Well he did. On Friday evening he put a dab of it in the pond and the next morning it was clear as a crystal when he got up and checked on it. I came in about an hour later, from working an allnighter in the ER til 7AM and rounded the curve to find him with a shovel filled up with at 20"Butterfly Koi that was dead and he was throwing him across the fence...........wha????? He decided that if a little dab of copper sulphate did that good that a little dab more would be even better!! He killed 19 huge Koi!!!! All 19 Koi!!!!

I was not a happy camper but he was so upset with himself that I felt sorry for him too. He offered to replace them all but I opted to go the goldfish route this time. I have since used copper sulfate in very minute doses with good results. I used it this morning and then Postman Bob brought me my package from ebay today.........

20 Water Hyacinth plants from Florida!!

My daddy always hated those things when we lived in Florida and he would probably laugh at me for buying them. They used to get hung in the prop on our boat.

I needed them to shade and oxygenate my water.

I purchased 20 plants but when they came I had 41!!!! woowooooo!!!!

We have had extremely hard winds here and the pond is so full of debris from the neighboring trees.


I really need to get on a pair of hip waders and hop in there so I can really clean the floor of the pond...........................but I have nightmares about rubber hip boots filled with cold water. Just ask Danny about taking me trout fishing and me slipping on a slick algae covered rock and having my hip boots fill up with very cold creek water in April!!
I WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER EITHER!!!!
I think I will pass and let him do that. I ain't hankering to get in there with flip flops on either. I told you earlier the sort of critters that I have seen hanging out in there!!

here we go again with new gardening ideas

"Roses"

I have several roses mostly climbers, I'll get pictures up soon,

but I only have a couple shrub type roses that I have managed not to kill over the past 9 years.

Our little local convenience store has a very small little plant shop on the side and they have the most gorgeous roses you have ever seen out there.

Leslie, Emma and I had to make a little girls only run to the market last evening and of course I had to have a couple of these babies......for starters!!

These roses are in 2 gallon pots and they are very healthy and they were 2 for $14.99

Can't find a rose of that quality at that price at a big box store!

I got a gorgeous plum colored "Intrigue" Rose and one called "Love" which is a beautiful red but the back of the petals are white reminding me of a candy cane! Both are floribundas.

This sure has got my wheels a rolling on figuring out just how many I can get on my property!

I can put climbers all the way around my back deck, and that may discourage Danny from wanting to put anything under there such as a lawnmower cart that has had a flat tire for 8 years now! Maybe I could run a rambling rose up over it!! HUM????

I also have ideas for many different places that I can stick a floribunda or a hybrid tea rose.

Then I can always remind him that he did in fact promise me a rose garden and a duck pond before we got married!!

My neighbor at The Fairy's Rest, Jesse, has the most beautiful roses all over his place. I have been drooling over them for a couple weeks now too.

Robin and I paid him a visit this week and she has also been inspired to plant some more roses!

It doesn't take a very big nudge for us to run out and try/buy a new plant :-))))))

look built up in her eyes

I had a little struggle
trying to load my gun while in such a run
I was acting like I knew what I was doin'
this just added to the fun

the ole possum was
now in quite a run
looking right at me and laughing
still a fumbling with my gun

never heard such a shooting
but he was not in any harm
he made his way thru the briars
with a smurk upon his face

oh come back you big ole possum
I'll be ready for you next time
I have my gun and bullets
by the door all in a line

I hope my huntin partner's here
she made this oh so fun
she did her job trying to hold him back
with her broom so as not to let him run

she can't help if she is afraid of briars
she gets that from her mom

next time we'll take a gun




hahahaha funny story!! Robin and I were at the breakfast table Tuesday morning and she spotted my big ole white possum meandering up thru the yard heading for the woods.
I jumped up and headed for my gun and told her to go and keep her eye on him so I could get him when I got my gun. I found every other gun that Danny owns except the 22 rifle that I knew how to shoot.

When I came running outside I see her standing in the road with a broom and I about fell over laughing. I told her to just go ahead and beat him to death!! By the time I made it there he was too far down in the briars for me to get a shot at. I did however give it my best shot, pun intended!

We sure got a good laugh to start the day off right. We were making up stories of what we would tell people we were doing if they drove down my dirt road and found us armed with a gun and broom!!! Saw a snake. Heard something strange. etc etc etc....... I don't think they would believe that we were possum huntin' in the daytime!!!! Maybe he got the message that I am not happy with him taking up residency under my henhouse now!!

Chasing lizards, watching the grass grow and things I've learned from fellow farmgirls!

I have told you before that I DON"T LIKE SPIDERS AND SNAKES!

OR LIZARDS!!!!!!

The Fairy's Rest has plenty lizards though and I don't like that.

Danny says when you live in the woods you are living in their habitat and you have to deal with them. Urgh!! This one looks like a baby crocodile.

This one was possibly pregnant and there will soon be all sorts of baby lizards around for me to enjoy! Yuck!


Well the pictures really didn't pick up on how green the yard was Sunday.

Yesterday much higher due to a really good warm rain on Monday.




I will be mowing soon enough. As if I have some free time to mow yet another yard.

OK gals.........I have had this vintage Easy Spin washer for a few years now. It worked but there was something wrong with the pump on it and Danny never would work on it for me so I let my sister-in-law talk me right out of it. Well she is married to Danny's brother Billy and she never could get Billy to work on it either. They were coming to our house one day and Billy called and asked me if I wanted the machine back.

hahahahahahaha

Of course I did! OMG girls I thought my husband was going to kill me! Seriously if looks could kill I would be dead right now cause I got "THE LOOK" from Danny when he saw that washing machine pull back in our driveway!! hahaha Then after he had to unload the "very heavy piece of junk" and put it in "His" garage to junk it up further with "My junk".............there was a lot of yada yada's coming from him for about 3 months!!!

Well my intentions were to plant flowers in it. I went Saturday morning and bought a tray of annuals and was pumped to get the machine filled with dirt and get them going.

Only one little problem here....................... well a big problem.......the machine is very very heavy and Danny was on an excavating job! So I thought and I thought and I said well he really wants that piece o junk out of his garage so with his job being only about 5 miles from home................I thought he would be more than happy to run home really quick and help me hoist this junk out to the designated area beside the barn and then run right back to work. I mean he is his own boss and he is entitled to a break, right? WRONG!!!! He flat out said NO!!

........so then I thought and thought some more and I was getting hotter by the minute, cause when I want to do something I want to do it right now. So I thought of my dear friend Terri and wondered how she would get it moved out there. Then it hit me that if I could someway get it on the Gator that maybe I could dump it off where it needed to be.

Not near as easy as it looks.

I did hoist it up on the back of the Gator ..................details would take way to long to tell you but I was just this much short of a herniation. I got it where it needed to be, came inside to sit and rest a minute and "Cool off".............when I hear a very familiar sound outside......a red Chevy truck pulling in my driveway.............

What???

No way???

I was really mad by then!!!

Danny~ well come on and get that stupid thang moved so I can get back to work.

me~ I have already moved it.

him~ Ha you did not.

him~ There is no way that you could have moved that heavy thing by yourself.

me~ well look at it (pointing out the window to where it now sits)

me~ The Gator.

him~ how did you even get it on the Gator?

me~ I was mad enough at you that I coulda moved my house if I wanted it moved!!!

He turned around and went back to work!

I went to filling the machine with dirt and compost and plants.

I hope Terri is proud of me!!

The rest of the past week while I wasn't blogging or beating my husband up, has been spent doing the same type of things. Even when it rained on Monday I would run out between showers and dig up something and bring up on the porch and divide it and then run back out and get it replanted.

Robin and Eric were in for a couple days and Robin helped me all day yesterday!!

Gardening at both houses!

I liked having my gardening buddy back too!!!!

She bought me a car load of plants from Ga and she left out yet again this morning with her car loaded down from here!! Poor Eric has bruises on his feet from digging in the Ga clay.

The things we country gals make our spouses do???????
