What's good for the goose......

is not always good for the gander.
Or what's good for the banty
is not always good for the guinea.

I am sorry but these little boogers are too cute to run off of my front porch!
I think they look like country decor!!
and they don't poop as much as the guineas do on my porch.
All seven guineas get on my covered porch, beside the sliding door
that is next to the kitchen table, every morning.
They yell and chatter and peck on the door for me to come out and play. They continue until I finally run them off with a dish detergent bottle of water.
Of course they poop way to much on that porch.
They will then go around to the front porch but they only stay there for a couple minutes.

I can't find it in my heart to run the banty's off though.
They are way too cute!!
I could just watch them all day long.
Remember I like fowl?

When we were getting our guineas incubated, we did a lot of research (well maybe not enough)
and it was funny to read that they were a bird of such a strict routine. Meaning you could set your watch by where they are at on your place at what time of day cause it would be at the same time each day.
Sure enough. They are on my side porch at 8:30 EVERY morning and then again at 6:30 in the evening. You know what? Come to think of it, I am at that dining room table at those times myself. Do you think they know that? LOL!!!

Love is in the air & Chocolate Caramel Pie!

Is this not precious? I mean lovebirds!! Come on!! Get a room, already!!!
Why did ya come in here looking like that?

Yes you guessed it. Breeding season!!

I know everyone else on here is experiencing kidding season but why would I want to be like everyone else? I am always a day late and a dollar short!!! You know kinda off beat!! Off the beat or something like that! The truth is that I got a really late start last year by trying to find a buck and that in turn messed this year up too. I can't say that I didn't like not having to be worrying about kidding in the cold weather though!! July worked quite well!

I can say that I like warm weather! We had a beautiful day and of course I took advantage of some sunshine to get the laundry out! .........and to get the chicken coop cleaned out, some spray painting outside, cleaning porches etc etc etc....... and playing in the mud!
Better than snow and ice!!!!

I just love this picture! Still playing with my camera ;-)

The guineas loved the warm weather too! This picture looks a little tropical with the green bamboo! We'll just pretend that is sand in the background, OK????
Watch your step, sandspurs ya know!!

Now for the celebration I made this pie! I took pictures but I decided that since the pictures don't do it justice that I will save you from having to endure them. The pictures and the pie look pretty rough. However it looks pretty darned good too. It's in the fridge chilling as we speak and in about 30 minutes I plan to be ready for dessert!!
~
I have something to celebrate now. I mentioned a couple posts back about a phone call that I received with a job offer and an interview scheduled for the next day. I got the job offer!!!! Woo wooooooo!!!!
~
That's not what I am celebrating though. I am celebrating the fact that I came to my senses and declined the job offer!!!!! Double woowooowooooowoooowoooo!!!! I know I probably shouldn't feel that way about it but it is like a great big black cloud settled in on my shoulders right about the time I made it to the interview and did not leave for 3 days until I made up my mind not to take it!! Why mess up a good thing? We are certainly not going hungry! Actually far from it!!
~
So come back in about 30 minutes and we'll have coffee and
Chocolate Caramel Pie!!
Of course I could have been a good blogger and typed out this recipe for you but I am not a good blogger and this is how I do things. OK?????? Shut up and go make you some pie if you won't come and have a piece with me. Better hurry cause Danny looks hungry ;-)

Pie update:

Don't go get your shoes and coat on quite yet. No need to hurry over. It was just so so because the crust tasted almost burnt. It was really dry and sorta scorched. Didn't look like it so I think it was probably not good to begin with cause you all know I couldn't up mess up a pie if I tried! Wrong!!!
I baked it on an airbake cookie sheet too. ??????
The filling, however is to die for chocolate. A cross between a chocolate mousse and a chocolate cheesecake! Smooth and heavenly! I will make this one again with a different crust!

Quick guinea update...

This morning I woke up to one guinea on top of my detached garage, one on the ground behind the garage and one in the garden. I had 5 but now 3. In a few minutes I had 2 of those on top of my house then they joined the other in the garden. A few minutes later I started hearing a terrible freaked out guinea shrill and chatter from toward our fishpond. I rode our ATV down there and found my white hen running up and down the hill in a severe panic. Apparently she lost her mate because another one didn't return with her. So the count is 4 now.

A few minutes later my mom and dad pulled up with his 4 in a cage for me. He gave them back because they s*** on everything, like he didn't know that they s***!!!! Oh well!! His loss. I found out right quick that they did their business on my front porch prior to flying up on my house!! Anywho I now have 8 guineas down there trying to get caught up on the gossip since they were seperated at 3 days old!!! They all seem really happy together so we will just have to wait til night fall agian!!

I am married to the smartest man in the world...

My guineas have had their door to their pen open for several days and would not venture out until today. I was loving watching them just putter around the barn talking to themselves and running back and forth.

Well we were wondering if they would infact go back in their pen at night fall to roost. No of course not. They all went to the top of the barn/coop to roost there. Then my dh being the smartest man in the world, decides to go and get a ladder and get up on top of the barn and run them off. Run them off he did too. Out thru the yard and into the woods as fast as they could fly. I will probably never see them again. I think he should have to sleep in a tree tonight too!!

Look what's in Leslie's apron....

She robbed my garden and my henhouse!
Get my gun!! She is not going to make if far with my booty from my garden especially a German Pink Tomato!! Actually she was here yesterday helping me make peach preserves and frozen peach pie filling and chicken-n-dumplings and...... so I guess she can raid my booty if she wants to. This headless apron wearing hunter is Leslie from http://www.ce.mommy.blogspot.com/.
OK Now folks today is the day. It is finally time for me to turn my 5 guineas out to allow them to free range. You know these were my little peeps out of my very first clutch that I ever set on, I mean incubated. I am very very over protective of them!! I don't want to get my feathers ruffled today either. Leslie had way to many ruffled feathers and bit nails when she turned her's out at first. She lost 2 of hers before they learned about how to go out and do their job of finding bugs and making their way back home to the right bed at night!!!! See why I am stressing over turning mine out!!!! Wish me luck!!!

A crooked hem, sew what???

This is my less than 1 hour skirt.
I have had this linen for a while and was going to make capri's out of it but I have decided that I really like skirts. Long skirts that is. I have purchased several more pieces of good linen for several more skirts ;-)
I love me some linen. That is after I came to the understanding that it does not have to stay wrinkle free!!!! It is cool and comfy and looks good too.
As I was pressing the final skirt , I noticed a very crooked place in the hem. Now this skirt was so simple to make, no pattern, just cut it by another long linen skirt and put in an elastic waist. I know a lot of you are probably thinking why waste a perfectly beautiful piece of linen on a skirt with an elastic waist. Well cuz it was what I wanted!! That's why!!! Also the crooked hem makes it an original. Let's see if anyone ever notices it. After all it was soooo easy to make I certainly wasn't going to rip out any hem and redo it either. I am a professional seamstress too. It is amazing that I could make an ostrich feather prom dress and can't sew a straight hem!!!
Now I will have an excuse to wear my lilac Dansko's. I have had them a couple years and only wore them a couple times. I was afraid to wear them to work as a nurse, where I wore most of my 16 pairs, because blood wouldn't be too easy to clean off of this lilac color!! The skirt is actually a dark plum color but my camera is crappy!! I need a new one badly. Oh Honey!!!
I have been a busy little homemaker today. Made a skirt, froze 1/2 bushel beets, birthed 7 baby chicks so far today........yep 7 of em so far and many more peeping thru!! They take a lot longer to hatch out than the guineas did. The guineas just busted right thru a really thick hard shell like it was nothing. I guess I have to be patient. Gotta go finish supper now. I am not going to be passed out from fatigue at 7 PM tonight. I plan to wrap things up early and just leisurely drift thru the evening tonight. I have already feed most of the animals, took a shower, put on my new skirt..teh hee and have to finalize supper and that's it!!!!!
Hope you have all had a wonderful day!!

Baby fowl update!

Boy there sure have been a lot of changes made around this little farm lately! My daughter Leslie's dh built her a FABULOSA chicken coop so I separated my old hens and sent 6 of them to live in their new spa-like serene setting. They will never come back to the poor living conditions that they were living in here :-(

You can read the rest of the story over at http://www.cemommy.blogspot.com/
Here's a close up of the guineas and turkeys.

My beautiful little white guinea. She is very rambuctious sp? LOL and she also loves to eat so I named her, what else but Becky!!!

Started out with 60 eggs, hatched out 44, not to bad for a beginner huh? 29 guineas out of 38 eggs, 4 turkeys out of four, and 11 chickens out of 18 eggs.

Bathtime!
Jus kiddin'.........I put them in the enameled bathtub only briefly while I cleaned their box and it looked like a Kodak moment to me!! We spent the day yesterday dispersing the keets and chicks out to their new homes. I am down to 6 chicks, 6 guineas and 4 turkeys. My BIL is to get the turkeys this weekend. Boy it was a lot of fun and a lot of work too trying to be an old hen. I am getting another load of white leghorn eggs ready for the incubator and plan to start it about next Tuesday. I do not want another hatching day on Fri, Sat and Sun!! Leslie and I both need some more young blood in our flock and now is a good time to get those eggs started so they will be laying when our 4 year old girls give out. My 5 White Leghorns are still giving me an egg almost everyday, rarely do they miss a day. Actually they may not be missing because I have found an egg eater (a buff orpington) and she is getting ready to be dumplings!!
So you see I haven't had very much bogging time lately, with the babies, the garden and all the other crazys that go on around here everyday!!
Take care!
Becky

I'll keep ya posted!
