Fabric and paintbrushes lead to....

I had a brilliant idea to make some outdoor curtains to help shield the unwanted sun at certain times of the day. What sort of relaxation can you get if the porch is not climate controlled?
I used a set of king size sheets and they are just perfect for what I needed.
Not sure why I haven't done this a long time ago.
I can't wait til late evening, swinging in the porch swing with a citronella candle burning to keep the mosquitos away....
Wait til you see my tree porch swing!
If Terri can have the most beautiful chicken coop with a porch, I can have the coolest hair studio with a porch!
I think I would be content to wait in line for a haircut in a nice peaceful garden with the sound of the songbirds and moving water, would you?
BTW, songbirds LOVE country music, it makes them sing louder and louder!!

One winter day......
Or you let your creativity come from within your embroidery machine......in other words someone elses creativity put to use....
fyi~ I love my new machine!!
Yep, we, along the rest of the Universe, according to our local weatherman, are under a wintry mix today and the world is all but standing still for us. I was off today anyways (Thank Goodness) but Danny was supposed to drive the tractor and trailer today with a load of something (maybe lumber??) and he thought he wasn't ready to be stranded away from home in this frigid weather. So while he sleeps I play!
fyi~ I love my new machine!!
It is so easy to use, I just took right off on it.
Could be that it is the same machine set up as my Baby Lock which makes threading it a breeze.
Could be that Danny already had it warmed up for me when I got home last night from work. He had took it out of the box and had it set up on the table.
He said "If you were just a little bit longer, I would have been sewing on it!"
hahahahaha
Now I think I will download some embroidery patterns from the internet?
Or take a nap??
Stay warm and safe!!

Just call BR-549......

.......and I will fix you right up! That is if you are in the market for a sewing machine or serger or if you are selling one of those items. Cause girls it seems that I have "trader" in my blood. I feel just like Junior Samples from Hee Haw! I know that most of you guys who read my blog are old enough to remember Hee Haw, right?
Yep ole Jr here has been wheelin and a dealin and has purged 4 sewing machines in the past couple months and gained ..........ssshhhhhhhh...two new ones!! My new Juki TL98Q....
themachinethatIloveandwouldn'ttakeafarmingeorgiaforquiltingandallaroundsewingmachine.
My latest deal has come down this weekend. I decided on Thursday to bite the bullet and list my Baby Lock Quilters Choice on ebay........remember the trip across the state last year to pick her up? Yeah me too. I did love her but I also didn't need her anymore and was really really jealous of my daughter Robin and her incredible Bernina embroidery machine and knew that I couldn't live much longer without a similar machine! So I listed my baby on Thursday and some nice seamstress from Hawaii needed her and purchased her on Saturday!! Well what do you know? I made exactly enough on my baby to buy me a new baby! Actually a new Brother!! (Not that I really wanted another brother cause the one that I already have has never liked me......my real life brother that is!) But I found this Brother PE770 Embroidery only machine and it's now on it's way to my house!! Yay I traded for myself a wonderful Christmas present that I didn't really even have to cough up any money for!! (I purchased my machine from QVC.com, it was cheaper there but hsn.com has the video for it)
The Elna Serger and two other Kenmores were sold in my etsy shop. I think I like trading sewing machines almost as much as collecting them! Maybe that's the indecisiveness of me being a Gemini coming thru? Hey at least it's not car trading. I used to LOVE the smell of a new car but I think I finally grew out of that one. Not that I wouldn't like a newer pick-up to pull our boat with but I don't think I have enough sewing machines sitting around to pay for that one right now. Even though I did make that great trade a couple years ago via Craigslist to basically trade one boat and one camper for a much larger and 14 years newer boat!!!!! I think I'll stick to trading sewing machines for now!
Now will someone please find me some time to play with all these new toys?????? PLEASE!!!! I beg of you! I will get my embroidery machine this week and maybe be able to come up with enough time to learn how to thread it before Christmas! I also have a "Black Friday on Saturday" sale item, a new Cricut to play with someday! I saved $140 on it and just "had" to have it too!! Got it for $59!! Now if I could trade something else around to get the money for an Accuquilt-Go Cutter????? Hmmmm.....maybe a coondog?? Imagine all the toys I could purchase if I could sell Little Ann??
So this leaves me with the Juki for quilting, in or out of the frames, and regular sewing if I wish. The Bernina for regular sewing, and yet one more Kenmore that has all the bells and whistles, more bells and whistles than my Bernina, that also sews like a dream. My Singer serger. And now my embroidery machine. I think I have all my needs covered pretty well. What do you think? Maybe sell the Bernina too?? hmmmmm?????
I think I will get off of here and go slap together a charm pack or something quick since I have the sewing fever really bad today and it is a nasty wintery mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain coming down outside right now. Maybe I can talk Danny into a cooking a pot of pinto beans and cornbread while I sew??????? I should be cleaning my sewing room back up cause it does not look like this right now!
I'll be back soon with pictures of all my new projects!!
Stay warm my friends!!

out with the old, in with the new....
Sunday we were one hill over doing the same thing except there was not a cloud in the sky!
There was a nice cool breeze a blowing to make the work of loading 100 bales of hay so much easier on my dh.....afterall they are "my goats" and I heard that a LOT that day!!
I heard it loud and clear when I dumped half a trailer load right back out in the field too!!
hahaha He wasn't laughing but everyone else was!
I was afraid for my life for a few minutes and I was dodging hay bales that I thought he was going to throw at me!!
He cooled back down and has sorta chuckled about it since then!!!
Nothing like loading hay twice!!
I/we are so fortunate to have a really good coonhuntin buddy....dh's coonhuntin buddy that is....who always gives us enough hay for my goats!! Can't buy friends like that everyday can you?
He has really good hay and my babies just love it!
Danny is working really really hard to get a hay shed finished, maybe tonight, to store the hay in this year. The other building that we have been storing the hay in will then be tore down to get started on my new goat barn!!!!!
Oh giggle giggle!!
I am sooo happy with that one too!
That other building has been an eyesore for 9 years to me.
I have been promised for 9 years that it wouldn't be there much longer....but it still stands......this is the year for it to come down though!
I hope to have a new goat dairy barn by spring time, with a nice milking parlor and a milk room complete with a fridge and sink!!
He gave me the dimensions and I have to design the barn to my liking.
I have changed my mind so many times......only where the stalls will be, the rest is pretty concrete. Oh giggle giggle........
I have also done some more out with the old in with the new around the house.......I have just sold 2 sewing machines on etsy (2 more to go) and I have a new one on the way.......sshhhhh......I just couldn't find the words to tell him about that new one yet!
Good thing he doesn't read my blog!
I have shown it to him and he said "well you are going to work and then you can buy it."
He just didn't know that I would buy it before I got a paycheck!!
Mums the word!!
Yep it's this one right here!!
A Juki TL98Q just like Amanda Jean's!
I have done my research and it is sure to be the right decision for me to go with this machine.
I have watched videos featuring this machine, read the reviews and drooled way to much on my keyboard. I just called them up to talk about it and within 2 minutes it was on the way from California! sshhhhhhh........
It will be here via UPS on Tuesday. The UPS man comes in the evening at about the same time that Danny gets home....I will more than likely not be here when it is delivered because I will be at work. I will have to find a way to tell him before that package arrives!
Any suggestions?
He may not take this as gracefully as he did the dumped load of hay!
Hey, we were on a very steep hillside and it couldn't be helped.....at least that's what I told him!
The day before a lady dumped a WHOLE load out in the field, so I didn't feel so bad!

Floyd French, Turkey Tracks and Juki Spiders.....
I told you that I had some cool new fabric from Michael Miller!
This is called Zinnia Path!
I fell in love with it when my eyes first hit it and went straight to the cutting table with the bolt!
I love every thing about it!
I cut it from another scrub top so that is always a risk. The other top was also an unfinished one from about 2 years ago so that was an even bigger risk! All I needed to do to the other one was sew the pockets on and yet they were not on there???? hmmm???
This placket area of the V-neck is always a problem area for me and a lot of others. I used to see a neat scrub on someone at work and I would go straight to see if the V was straight and I could tell if they were homemade or not!! Those girls probably thought I was staring at their cleavage!
I have over the years finally figured out how to make this placket come into a V and actually lay down! Big pat on my back from myself!
So I played with some of the many stitches on my Baby this morning and found a favorite of mine that I will call "Turkey Tracks" and I put it right across the tops of my pockets just because I wanted to!!
I also did a fold down stitch down edging on the pockets that I will call Floyd French!
I live in Floyd County Va and it reminded me of a French seam but wasn't really French at all!!
Funny how my mind thinks isn't it?
ie. the spider in my new Juki quilting machine last night...........
Gotta have room for the belly when I bend over!
These old drab numbers just pale in comparison to my new fancy smancy top don't they?
Danny said that I was going to have fun for the first week at work showing off all my new clothes that I made!!!!! Well, maybe so!
I used to work in a sewing factory...imagine that??......and I would go to the mall and see a top or dress, what have you, and I would go home and whip me out a pattern (a rigged up pattern) and make the same top or dress. I used to come home in the afternoons and just make me a new top to wear to work the next day like it was nothing! Those were the days......why did I stop doing that? Maybe the family decided that they needed meals prepared or laundry done??? I dunno! Maybe it's all their fault that I don't have a nice wardrobe today, maybe they broke my good habits??
Just like it's my kids fault that I am fat!
I used to get my workout wear on and slap an exercise vhs tape in the vcr
and in about 2 seconds I would have 2 scantily clad little girls right under me donning their "lidtards" (leotards) and legwarmers!! hahaha I would get so frustrated that they were in my way that I would just go to the fridge and make me a sandwich or something and sit on the couch and watch the two of them working out in their lidtards! They would figure out pretty quickly that it was no fun and want what ever I was eating!!!
Then they grew up got married and have kids of their own!!!
HAHAHAHA!!!! Paybacks are fun!!
Here is my Newspaper Quilt that is in progress.
I am in such a habit of this quilting stitch now. I used it on my pinwheel quilt too. I WILL try something different on my next pinwheel quilt that I am piecing now.
I can do others but this one just feels comfortable to me.
I have been watching videos on youtube of different quilting techniques so watch out!
I love the back!
No I am not quilting it this way this was just staged for a picture!!!
I am a little over half way thru with the quilting.
I just realized that I did not have any binding fabric so I will make a trip to Schoolhouse Fabrics for some matching fabric....come to think of it...I bought the fabric for the border and did I not get enough for the binding too??? I have to hunt for that!

This is where I am.....
In my fresh clean office/quilting room!
Whew, this room was a mess, and I will leave it at that!!!
I will spare you all the grimmy, dusty, cluttered details.
hahaha
This is the Moda Nest quilt that I made and it was my first project on my Baby Lock when I got her home! I think the quilt has now found a good home!
Pardon the 2 baskets plus of excess "stuff" that still need a new home. The table in the middle of the floor was used to sit my machine on before Danny got home and moved the red enamel top table down from my sewing room. I will finish tidying those things up tonight or tomorrow, I promise!
But just look at that view!!
The stupid welder with the flat tire and all the grease/hydraulic fluid buckets behind the garage in front of the machine! Men? The green fishpond from the other window!!
I have to say it sure is a nice bright place to sew. I did a lot of sewing in this room for Robins wedding. I made her wedding gown, 3 flower girls dresses and 5 bridesmaid dresses while sitting in front of that window!
The view from the front window, the grandkids toys and my fishpond that isn't too green to enjoy. It must not be too bad because there are about 200 baby goldfish in there this year! That is another first for Sunny Morning Farm......other than the big fish pond, we have never had fish to hatch out in the smaller ponds! Yay! Anyone need any goldfish?
I have all colors, orange, black, white and any combo of colors!
Yes I still have paint that needs to be scraped off of the windows too..........among my many other things that I need to finish around here!

I can sit this winter/early spring and watch the Eastern Bluebirds in the crabapple tree out this window!
Now after I finish getting this box of stuff filed......

I can finish this quilt. I sewed the binding on it and apparently stretched the binding while I was sewing it and it is smaller than the quilt causing it to curl!! The crazy things I do!

I will have to remove it and start over.....urgh!!
She looks new and shiny doesn't she?
I plan to use this room and this machine only for quilting and doing the rest of my sewing and piecing in my sewing room. This way I have freed up some much needed space up there and it takes a good open space to be able to swing a quilt around while quilting it, I hope this was a good idea!
Half Time......
So girls.......I start my nursing job on Sept 13th in the surgeons office. That's a Monday and it is the day for system orientation. I can't tell you how many times I have had to sit thru this one. I have worked with the Carilion system in many different positions over the years and went to nursing school with them. Each time you transfer to another position (even within the same unit) or go to school you have to sit thru this ordeal! At least it is only one day now instead of 3-5 days like it used to be. Don't tell anyone but after I had sat in this "show" for about 5 times, I fell asleep during the fire safety video and had my head in my hand and my elbow on the arm chair and almost fell in the floor!!! When I woke up I looked around and everyone was asleep!!
Other than that Monday and a staggered crazy schedule for computer classes for the new electronic medical records they are using now, I will be only working mostly Tues, Wed, and Thurs!! Only 3 days a week....that leaves me 4 days a week, right? So I am trying to convince myself that I am going to be just fine working only part time. I am not having a lot of luck convincing myself of that tho. This morning it hit me that I will be only working "half time", actually less than half time when you consider that I will have 4 out of 7 days off to do the things that I love to do. I will have those other 3 days to make the money to support those other habits that I have on those 4 day breaks...sewing, quilting, sewing machine collector, farm girl, water lover, gardener, goat milker, cheese maker...etc etc etc etc........ Plus the time to work in my hair studio! Never know how that will pan out cause I am out in the boonies ya know!
Then if it happens that I have to work 4 days one week (the schedule is made out 30 days in advance) I am going to convince myself that those hours will be "bonus money" that will be used for special things!! I will make myself happy with this decision one way or the other!!! I am sure that I will be just fine once I actually get in the door and reality slaps me in the face. It is usually so busy with any nursing job that I have ever had that you can only daydream so much throughout the day about what you would rather be doing!
So I am going to think positive about this and go forth!! OK? OK!
Now in the next a little less than two weeks (but who's counting?), time that I have left, I am going to make some changes around here. I know you have heard it all before but like I told my sil..."don't believe everything you read on here!" She asked me one day if I had finished a quilt that I started many months before!! hahahahaha Like I said don't believe it all!!! LOL!! This time I am going to get some "so called organization going" like in my sewing room. I am full of ideas about how to get things organized in there so I can have a couple projects going at a time and be able to finish them in increments at different stages and different stations for each step in the process. You know my ADD and also I will "NEED" for sanity's sake to have something to be able to work on when I get home in evenings or on those days off. I will explain all that later and maybe with pictures!!
I am also on a quest to fall in love with my Baby Lock Quilter's Choice machine again. Remember I looked at the Elna Quilter's Queen at the fabric store last week. I DID NOT SEW ON IT, I AM NOT THAT STUPID!! I did however drool all over it......sorry ladies but I have it marked with my spit now so I guess I will have no choice but to buy it!! However, I am trying once again to convince myself that it is the "same" machine as what I already have and does the "same" things that my baby does! The Queen was just so shiny and new and had a different "powerhouse" look to her. I am going to give it my best shot with my baby today and hopefully get a lot of time in on her in the next 2 weeks to fall in love with her all over again. If I don't flip again, I will go back to the store and take the queen for a test drive and think about purchasing her in the next few months, or maybe I'll find a real nice used queen on ebay! This is the same machine that she has at Pleasant Home!
Better go I have some furniture to move!!

Well I am drinking now!
It took me all day long to get pictures of two of those machines and get them in my etsy store.
I thought I would truly pull my hair out but then I remembered that I could drink and my troubles would float away....................and sweet tea makes me float ;-)
I had a lot of difficulty trying to figure out how to reduce the size of my images in order to upload them. It was soooooooooooooooooooo simple once the light bulb went off!! If you need to know how I will sell that information to you. It is available in my etsy shop!!! hahaha
Go on over to my Etsy shop and see the two machines that I listed and buy them OK??? I have a ton of other vintage items that I plan to list in the next few days that may be interest to you also, so please check back!!

Driving me to drinking......
I think this person has a serging machine, don't you?
hahahahaha
I have so many funny thoughts running thru my mind right now!
ie. My aunt hiding hot beer in her washing machine so her husband would never know that she drank!!! Yes she would do a lot of laundry and she was always SO happy to do so!!!
Hot Beer????? Yuck! Well yuck for any beer!!
I was also thinking of my mother who called me about a year ago and asked me what kind of serging machine I had.
I seriously had a flash go thru my mind of my mother sitting in her sewing room pulling her hair out and maybe sipping something strong from a flask with a cute vintage sewing machine on it.....all because the thread had broke on her serger and she was trying to rethread it in the proper way one thread at a time in a particular order!!!!!
All the while cursing ME with every breathe while hiccupping between curse words and sips!!!!
But.........being the good daughter that I am I thought everyone should endure that experience at least a couple hundred times in their life so I told her to go for it and she purchased a nice Singer serger like one of mine!
I recieved a call from her last week with a question about her serger.......I just about fell out of my chair when she started the conversation that way, thinking to myself...."Oh No she caught on to why I talked her into buying a serger...."
Actually all was good and she wasn't too very upset with the threading. She said that she was always very patient and took her time to make sure she threaded it in the proper order.
Like me she doesn't have to do that very often.
However if something does go wrong.....such as your 4 year old grandson has a temper tantrum and gets mad at you and decides to "work" on your sergers tension.........you WILL start drinking something very strong from a flask in your sewing room and not care whether your husband finds out or not!!!
This comes from me getting ready to bite the bullet and scale down and sell some of my 27 sewing machines. OK So I have now told the whole world about my decision and therefor I will be held accountable for doing just that now!
I collect them.
I love them. Even after sitting for hours on end trying to readjust the tensions post tantrum.
By the way they are all running very very smoothly at this time!!
Colton decided that he probably shouldn't "Work" on my machines any more.
(When Leslie got a used machine that I picked up at a yardsale for her and was having some difficulty getting it to sew, Colton told her that he could fix it cause he "always worked on Granny's"........OMG!!!!!!!!)
It is like cutting off my right arm....my arm used to turn up the flask.....
to get rid of a sewing machine.
It brings tears to my eyes to just speak of such nonsense.
I mean really?
I bought each and every one of them with a purpose in mind.
I know I know I have a lot of them that do the exact same jobs.......
Sew what???
Please wish me luck and pray for me to get thru this.
I do not want to have to go back to etsy and buy this flask and use it while sitting in my sewing room mourning the loss of one of my machines!
Actually it is soooooooo cute that I may just have to start drinking anyway!!
So if you miss me for a few days, I will either be in the sewing room taking lots of pictures for ebay or in the sewing room in the corner muttering words and hiccupping .............
If anyone needs a sewing machine or serger let me know what you need and I just might have it.....sorry no long arm quilting machines.

ETA June 2021
Look how little I have already finished on it!
Look how long I have already had it......maybe 6 years!
I purchased this kit at a neat little needlework shoppe in pigeon Forge, TN when Robin, Morgan and I went there on a girls only weekend. The little shoppe was so dagum cute that I couldn't
resist buying this even though I knew how slow I was at cross stitching...........
ahhaaahhhhhaahhaaaahahhaa and I think it will be finished in 2021?

Did I tell you how much I paid for this?
I won't tell you either. Let's just say it should have it's own insurance policy, finished or not.
I dug this up this morning. I knew where it was, it was being protected.
This is the nicest needlework fabric and thread that I have ever worked with.
I am going to finish it, I am!
I mean even with ADD...it's a sampler so I shouldn't get bored with it, right?
I will have it finished by the time we crown a new American Idol winner this season.

There is nothing that I don't like about this pattern..
I like blueberries, farm houses, the Amish,
quilts........oh yeah that's right I am a quilter. So scratch all this hogwash that I just fed you cause I have quilting to do.
I can't be wasting time cross stitching and watching American Idol.....forget that I even mentioned it.............

Move over Martha!!
In her new semi-organized sewing studio.
Oh boy oh boy have I been at it today. I was so tired of having a sewing machine here and an ironing board there. Here a cutting board and there a cutting board.....and everywhere in my house a sewing mess.
How was a girl to get anything done?
So I went to town on this room upstairs which was my original sewing room.
I have had a dilema with my quilting frames......I did not have room to put them up and extend them to fit a king sized quilt. Or hardly room to even use them for a lap quilt either. Danny has been begging me to make one for our bed. He made me a bed when we first got married....full size though. He says if he could build a bed at least I could make a quilt for it!! Does he really know what's involved with that one? LOL!!!
In the picture above there are 2 big Rubbermaid tables sitting end to end which can be used for the frames as big as I need them to be!!! woooowooooo!!!!! Finally figured that one out!

Until I get that said king size quilt made and ready for the frames one of the tables will be used as a cutting table. It is up on blocks to save my back!
This sewing cabinet was a consignment store treat at $44 last year!!!!!!! I love it!!
You see what kept me going today....Dr Pepper and my MP3!!!
I may be sewing all night!!
One of the best things I have ever done was to buy that big display of Gutermann thread. I got it 1/2 price at Joann Fabrics (I think it was $89) a couple years ago and it has really come in handy. I don't remember ever being out of thread unless it was quilting thread since I bought this.
I can sit in the one rolling chair and scoot around to the 3 different machines as I need to.

Semi-organized shelves for storage. I have lots of containers that have been repurposed for storage of sewing notions. My bolts of fabric fit on the bottom shelf nicely. The tan cabinet is chock full of fabric. No it's not sorted by colors and perfectly folded so
I did not take pictures of that ;-)
I wish!!

Playing with my Baby Lock
Funny how sewing machines can be so different.
I still have a lot of studying of that manual to do!!
It's starting to make sense though!
So I had to start another quilt.
These are some Moda charms that I have had for a while
and I had decided that I didn't really like them so I thought what the hay,
if they get messed up I wouldn't be out of much.
There are black blocks in here though.
I love the extension table on this machine.
I have never had one and I didn't know what I was missing!
It sure saves a lot of stress on your arms.
She has the entire Madera set for her embroidery machine and
she just happened to have them with her ;-) when she arrived today,
could have been that I asked her to bring her machine!!!
Like I don't have enough sewing machines in here.
I had to laugh earlier cause I just realized that it looks like a home ec class in here!
Time to scale down?
Time to scale down?
Nah!
than any of my other machines.
I am surprised how much easier it is to move a quilt around in there!
wooowoooo
I also like my new Baby!
I love the automatic threader.
The larger throat.
The extension table.
The thread Cutter!!!!!! woooowoooo awesome just like an industrial machine!
The knee lifter.
etc etc etc
The 1/4 inch foot works so much better than the one on my Bernina or the Kenmore machines.
The stitches are just beautiful! (unlike my Bernina)
The little blue light is actually a clip on book light but it sure helps to illuminate your work surface and it just clips on the top of the machine!
Pretty smart huh?
When you are blind like me you need all the help you can get!

All in all I love my new machine.
Thanks honey!!
I love Craigslist!!
I love the fact that I saved $478 off the price of a new machine just like it!!
I sure hope it does good in my quilting frames!
I have a couple bigger quilts started that I will try with this machine in the frames.
